WHY DOES WE NEED A SUSTAINER PROGRAM?

Rowing Club at NC State (RCNCS) is a self-funded collegiate athletic club. As our team expands, we need to continually upgrade and expand our fleet of shells (boats) to remain competitive. All equipment must be purchased, maintained, and eventually replaced. The club also incurs fees for boat storage, insurance, and administrative expenses. Rowers’ fees cover approximately half of the club’s total costs, including equipment. For example:

An eight-person shell (boat) costs between $15,000 and $20,000

One set of 8 oars costs more than $3,400

New ergs (rowing machines, essential for training) cost more than $900 each

Used ergs cost between $400-$600 each

Cox boxes (the voice amplification system used by coxswains) cost close to $600

Launches and outboard motors also need maintenance and periodic replacement

WHAT IS THE SUSTAINER FUNDRAISING PROGRAM?

The Sustainer fundraising program is a monthly donation program to raise funding for RCNCSU's capital budget. With a growing roster of rowers, our aim is to gather, on average, donations totaling $25 per rower per month. This monthly total will enable us to reach the program’s $10,000 annual goal and support the club’s needs for equipment and other expenses.

Anyone can be a sustainer,! You, siblings, grandparents, alumni, friends, neighbors, professors, financial planners, rowers... Anyone who wants to be part of the solution and support the needs of collegiate rowers. Our rowers have experienced defeat not because they weren’t prepared, and not because the other teams were stronger, but because the aging equipment failed them! Sustainers support our rowers with equipment that matches their strengths and determination.
